The City of Lufkin Selects a New Fire Chief

 

   The City of Lufkin has tapped one of their own for the position of Fire Chief. Chief Ted Lovett brings over 25 years of experience within the Lufkin Fire Department to his newly appointed position. Chief Lovett is currently serving as the Interim Chief and has previously served as Chief of Training and Emergency Medical Services, and Fire Operations prior to this appointment. Before serving as head of the training division, Chief Lovett has served as EMS Coordinator, Regional Advisory Council Representative, and Equipment Acquisition Coordinator.

   Chief Lovett has successfully written and acquired grants for over two million dollars in equipment such as: new fire apparatus, fire training simulator trailer, thermal imaging cameras, hazardous material detection equipment, Self Contained Breathing Apparatus, and numerous other equipment and training opportunities. He has completed year one of the Texas Fire Chiefs Academy and is enrolled to complete year two in a couple of weeks.

 

   Chief Lovett stated “It is a very humbling and great honor to lead such a professional organization that has been so rewarding to me over the last 25 years”.
 

 

LUFKIN FIRE DEPARTMENT NEWS

 

In the wake of the attack of September 11 and subsequent anthrax incidents the department has seen an increase in biohazard calls in Lufkin and Angelina County.  All substances tested thus far have been negative. One of the calls (shown below) to Central ISD was mentioned in the October 29 issue of Time magazine.
