 The
City of Lufkin is blessed with some of the best fishing in the
state. Lake Sam Rayburn is a short drive from Lufkin's numerous
hotels and motels and the lake offers world class bass fishing.
Numerous national level bass tournaments are held on the lake each
year. In addition, Kurth Lake, owned by Abitibi Consolidated
Industries and just a few miles north off of Highway 59, offers
excellent bass, crappie, and hybrid striper fishing. The City also
has two parks with lakes that offer bank fishing.
