City of Lufkin City Manager C. G. Maclin accepts the Center for Digital Government's Visionary award in the City category in a ceremony Monday, September 29 in Austin.  C. G. won the award for demonstrating innovation and leadership in IT programs to include a wireless wide area network, the implementations of IP telephones, increased web services to include payment of utility bills and traffic fines online, live city council webcasting, and the availability of free web hosting for non-profit organizations in Lufkin.  "We are very pleased to present the Best of Texas awards to these IT leaders and agencies," said Cathilea Robinett, executive director of the Center for Digital Government. "The awards are presented to individuals and agencies that have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to improve the quality of service to citizens through the use of information technology. The recipients have definitely earned this recognition and deserve to be acknowledged with our Best of Texas awards, which symbolize excellence in IT."  Jim Brown, National Account Manager for Qwest, made the presentation.

The Texas Association of Information Officers (TAMIO), an affiliate of the Texas Municipal League, named the City of Lufkin Website, produced by Bill Cameron Consulting, a division finalist for the 2004 TAMI Awards.  The Tami Awards are designed to recognize the outstanding work of municipal information officers throughout the state, as well as encourage professional development by those in our shared field.
