We responded to a wildfire off state Highway 103 east this afternoon.

The fire, which broke out near the City of Lufkin Business Park, was reported around 2:30 p.m. The blaze grew to 7-10 acres within minutes amid dry, windy conditions. Though the fire got within feet of houses along state Highway 103 east, firefighters quickly contained it, and no structures were affected.

Texas Forest Service and Central, Diboll, Huntington, Moffet and Rivercrest Volunteer Departments also responded to the scene. Lufkin Police Department provided traffic control as a portion of FM 842 had to be shut down for firefighting efforts.

The fireground will be monitored for hot spots over the next few days.

The fire's cause is currently unknown.
