Volunteers
Volunteers are always welcome at the shelter. Volunteers are vital in helping to socialize and exercise our animals. There are many ways you can help. One of the largest ways to help is by coming to the shelter and walking our dogs in Paw Park. By volunteering, you are greatly enhancing the lives of our animals and improving their quality of life. Volunteering is a rewarding experience as you will see your hard work and dedication pay off when witnessing the adoption of one of the animals you have helped. Please call or come by the shelter to discuss volunteer opportunities.

Our volunteers have their own Facebook page called Friends at Kurth Memorial Animal Shelter. This Facebook page was created and run by volunteers to promote animals for adoption, shelter events and activities, educate readers on pet overpopulation, and share happy tails. It is not an official City of Lufkin or Animal Services page, but volunteers provide lots of information you may find helpful.

Rescue Partners
Though many of our animals go to good homes in our area, Kurth Memorial Animal Services works with rescue partners to help us find the perfect home for our animals. We are very grateful to have these organizations assist us in finding a great life. We are always in need of help. To become a rescue partner, start by filling out the Rescue Group Information Form. You can also volunteer to transport animals to rescue groups as well. For more information, give us a call 936-633-0218.

Foster Care
The purpose of the foster program is to help make space at the shelter due to the high volume of intake. Fostering is designed as a temporary measure for animals. As a foster you play a large role in the life of that animal by getting to know the animal and passing that information on to the adopter. Foster families assume the expenses for the care of their foster animal including food and medical care. For more information about this program you can call the shelter. To apply to become a foster, fill out the Foster Application and Foster Contract.
