Dispatcher Employment FAQs

What is the starting pay?
Dispatchers start at $20.55/hr. which is more than $42K annually.

What is the recruiting process?
  • Application submission
  • Personal History Statement (PHS): Candidates MUST complete the (PHS) and bring it with them, with all appropriate documentation to their scheduled background appointment. PHS will be picked up in person.
  • Preliminary interview board/PHS review
  • Polygraph/final background investigation
  • Final interview board
  • Conditional job offer, including but not limited to:
  • Psychological evaluation
  • FBI fingerprinting
  • Physical & drug screen
Expected duration of process: approximately 6-8 weeks after the posting announcement close date

What are the job requirements?
  • Must be flexible to work days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License and a safe driving record.
  • Ability to pass a vision test with correctable vision of 20/30.
  • Ability to pass an Audiogram Test.
  • Ability to type 40 words per minute.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience providing high-volume customer service in a fast-paced environment that required multi-tasking, initiative, & active problem-solving. One (1) year emergency dispatch experience preferred.
  • A TCOLE Telecommunicator License is preferred, however it is not mandatory initially but must be obtained within one year in order to continue employment.

You must be at least 18 years of age to apply.

What shifts do dispatchers work?
  • “A” shift: 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. every Sunday-Tuesday and every other Saturday
  • “B” shift: 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. every Wednesday-Friday and every other Saturday
  • “C” shift: 6 p.m. - 6 a.m. every Sunday-Tuesday and every other Saturday
  • “D” shift: 6 p.m. - 6 a.m. every Wednesday-Friday and every other Saturday
How many dispatchers are on each shift?
A normal shift includes three dispatchers with a minimum of two.
Are uniforms provided?
Yes, uniforms are provided upon completion of our training program as well as a $40 monthly cleaning allowance.
