The City of Lufkin is happy to announce the promotion of Albert Duffield Jr. to director of utilities.

The City’s director of plant operations, Gary Barton, retired last month after a 30-year career. Barton’s retirement led to a redistribution of responsibilities. As part of that redistribution, Duffield is taking over departmental responsibilities for the water and wastewater plants, water and sewer utilities and utility collections, according to Interim City Manager Kevin Gee.

“Albert’s skillset, proven work ethic, and background make him the best choice for this position,” Gee said. “I am confident he will excel in this new role.”

Duffield joined the City in 2018 as the director of water and sewer. He has spent the past four years working to ensure the integrity of city infrastructure.

Duffield is a retired military man, serving 20 years in the United States Air Force. Following his military career, he spent time in healthcare administration and criminal justice before moving back to Lufkin. As a 1989 Lufkin High School graduate, Duffield calls this area “home.”

“I am honored to be given this opportunity and hope to continue to serve the City well,” Duffield said.
